Tucked amongst some unassuming factory facades in the Melbourne’s eastern suburbs is a locally owned and operated coffee company that’s been roasting up a storm for more than 15 years.
Melba coffee and tea roast fresh, six days a week at their Dandenong South operations centre.
Here we house three roasters that roast raw coffee beans into the aromatic and quality brews that Melba’s customers enjoy daily.
There’s a world of difference between “good” and “great” coffee.
There are so many variables when it comes to coffee – there’s the way the beans are grown on the farm, how they’re harvested and transported, right through to how we formulate the custom blends our customers love, using our years of experience in what makes a great cup of coffee.
We make sure to only source our coffee, tea, and chocolate products from boutique, micro-lot, and specialty producers.
Then there’s the way we roast the beans in our custom designed and built roasters with our small team of specialist coffee-lovers. He end result is the production of some of Melbourne’s best coffee, all from our humble roasting house in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
It’s the care taken at each of these stages that sets Melba’s award-winning coffee apart.
Melba Coffee and Tea was founded in the 1990s by Johnny Frangoulis. Johnny had recently completed a degree in biomedical science and was looking to go into pharmaceutical sales. But his discovery of a love of coffee would soon get in the way of all that.
Soon afterwards Johnny met his wife-to-be, Tania, who was from Mexico, further cementing Johnny’s coffee obsession! Johnny’s extended family soon became part of the business, and the business expanded from only supplying coffee to also sourcing high quality teas, chocolate, and cacao.
Today, Melba Coffee and Tea supplies hundreds of cafes, restaurants, hotels, and distributors across Australasia, all of whose livelihoods depend on serving their customers great coffee.
Even though we live and breathe coffee, there are more important things in life. Things like fairness, equality, and preserving our environment. That’s why Melba Coffee and Tea is committed to sourcing its products only from accredited sources.
There are three organisations leading the way when it comes to certifying that products such as coffee have come from fair and sustainable sources: Fair Trade, UTZ, and Rainforest Alliance.
We also source organic coffee, tea, and cacao for our products wherever possible.
Melba coffee's hard work has also been seen and recognised by its peers, winning Silver and Bronze medals in "The Golden Bean Roasters Competition" in all the years entered, as well as a Bronze medal in the international coffee awards in 2013.
